Converting Lofts and Attics Runcorn
Loft conversions transform underutilised roof space into functional living areas such as bedrooms, home offices or bathrooms, with the approach and scope of work depending on your existing roof structure.
This is among the most popular types of project we are asked to undertake, and we would love to assist you. We manage every aspect of the process, from preliminary preparation and scaffolding installation through to timber carpentry, roofing modifications (where needed), and complete interior finishing including floor laying, plasterboard installation, plumbing systems and electrical wiring.
The main types of conversions are:
- Dormer – a boxed extension projecting outward from the roof slope, creating full-height ceiling space and accommodating windows
- Hip-to-Gable – replacing a sloping hipped end with a vertical gable wall to increase usable volume, particularly suited to semi-detached properties and end-of-terrace houses
- Mansard – reconstructing one or both roof planes to an almost vertical angle with a flat section above, maximising available space and typically requiring planning consent
- Velux / rooflight – retaining the current roofline whilst installing windows directly into the slope where sufficient headroom exists
- L-shaped – pairing a primary rear dormer with an additional dormer above the rear outrigger extension, common in traditional terraced properties
Regardless of which type you choose, the work encompasses structural modifications to the roof framework, installation of new floor joists, staircase construction, insulation compliant with current building regulations, and comprehensive internal finishing.
